The Pleasant Company Pretty Clothes sewing patterns were available for the first six American Girl Dolls—Samantha, Kirsten, Molly, Felicity, Addy, and Josefina. Each set of patterns usually includes pajamas, underclothes and a few outfits from their collection. Below, you can find images of the dresses that are included in each of the pattern sets. The patterns are great for recreating pieces from the dolls’ collections that are retired and sometimes pricey or hard to find. Or it’s fun to make a new variation with unique colors and patterns. The patterns can also be used to make dresses for other historical characters—Josefina’s Navidad dress is a regency style dress that could work for Caroline. Molly’s Birthday Pinafore could be so cute in many color variations and would work for Nanea, Maryellen or even Kit. In the lower right of the photo below is an example of a similar 1930s ruffle sleeved dress in a polkadot pattern.
From time to time the actual patterns come up for sale on sites like Etsy, eBay or Mercari, but you can access a full pdf copy for completely free from AG Playthings website. We bought our Kirsten used, so she didn’t come with her red checkered bonnet. Girlfriend is tired of the sun getting in her eyes. Plus I thought she could use a bonnet for some of her other outfits.
