Fun Finds

Dress Like Courtney!

Everybody’s favorite 80s fashionista American Girl doll, Courtney, has had some fun fashions in her collection. Her mix and match collection has lots of cute pieces for endless combinations of outfits. 80s fashion was so colorful, iconic, and fun. We thought a list of human sized look alike clothing would be fun to put together. What’s your favorite piece from Courtney’s collection?

For this list I only added clothing that is new and mass produced, not one of a kind used listings from sites like Etsy and Poshmark. Even though I did find some good items there, I didn’t want to lead off to something that’s no longer available. If you are planning to build your own Courtney mix and match wardrobe (and why wouldn’t you be?) then check out local thrift stores and resell sites as well for unique, authentic 80s pieces.

Courtney’s Shoes

Courtney has several pairs of shoes in her collection from high tops to flats, all of which are uber cute.

Pink and White High Tops

While the pink and white combo was hard to find (unless you want to drop major cash for some limited edition Nikes), we found a few white hightop options. Purchase a pair of bright pink laces, then you’ll have your Courtney look in no time! We found some cute high tops in adult sizes from Reebok. You can’t get more 80s than Reebok!

Courtney’s Flats

Find a light blue pair of socks and you’ll be ready to head out for a fun day at the mall like Courtney.

Courtney’s White Meet Boots

We don’t have a Courtney in our doll collection, and we don’t need to add any more, but can I tell you how many times I’ve considered buying her just to get these boots and her skirt??

Pink Jelly Shoes

No 80s collection would be complete without jelly shoes!

Courtney’s Jackets

Girlfriend has the best collection of jackets in her lineup—fringe, oversized, acid wash—swoon, it’s all so amazing.

Acid Wash Denim Jacket

I’m still reeling about American Girl retiring Courtney’s Denim Jacket, but luckily acid wash is in right now so there’s lots of human sized jackets to choose from.

Oversized Blazer

Courtney’s Oversized Blazer has pink stitching, a pink flower, and pink cuffs. You can get crafty and add some of those details to this black oversized blazer.

White Fringe Jacket

This is my favorite piece of Courtney’s new release! This white jacket on Amazon has several listings, but no reviews. I’m hesitant to recommend it, but it was the closest to Courtney’s jacket.

Courtney’s Cropped Jacket

I’ve never shopped from Shein before (have you?) but this pink jacket is near identical to Courtney’s cropped jacket, I couldn’t leave it off the list. While searching for a look alike, I also noticed several jackets sold on Poshmark (mostly from Forever 21 it seemed) that also had a similar look, so that could be an option as well.

Courtney’s Mix and Match Tops and Bottoms

Courtney’s mix and match collection all coordinates for endless outfit options.

Courtney’s Skirts and Tank Sets

I had a hard time finding a houndstooth top (although there are a few dress options out there) but this skirt looks pretty close to Courtney’s.

Courtney vibes all day in these pink pieces with black dots.

Courtney’s Geometric Tops

Abstract prints ruled the 80s and 90s. These fun geometric shirts with triangles, dots, and squiggles are similar to Courtney’s Graphic Sweatshirt and her Shirt and Tie.

I didn’t find a bubble skirt that looked like Courtney’s, but this skirt is reminiscent of hers. Add some pink suspenders and you’ll be good to go!

Courtney’s Cardigan

Courtney’s cardigan existed in real life! Worn by Kelly on Saved by the Bell. How amazing would it be to find this sweater?! Kudos to agig instagrammer, kellyootd for finding this. I searched the Google for so long for this sweater, but no luck.

Courtney’s Acid Wash Denim

I already mentioned that acid wash is having a renaissance right? Well, drop waist skirts are not (yet?) but I still found this amazing skirt that looks a lot like Courtney’s, the only problem being that it’s not available in a ton of sizes (boo).

This denim skirt from H&M also has Courtney vibes even without the drop waist.

Sigh, Courtney’s glorious acid wash jeans were discontinued and now sell on the resell market for a whole lot of dollars. Well, these $100 pair of jeans capture some of those amazing 80s details and, hey, they are really only just a bit more expensive than what Courtney’s are going for now.

Not quite ready to drop that kind of cash to dress up like Courtney? Well these jeans from Hollister are only $35 and look a lot like Courtney’s. Also, check out thrift stores and Poshmark. I saw some amazing Jordache stunners while searching for these.

80s fashion is so fun! Which piece is your favorite?
