Happy Birthday, Josefina!

Happy Birthday, Maria Josefina Montoya! Her birthday is March 19, 1815, so we threw her a little party to celebrate. We made papel picado for decorations, gave gifts, and ate some tres leches cake. Don’t worry, this birthday was less eventful than that in her American Girl book, no rattlesnakes showed up this time!

Josefina wore her birthday outfit with her hair pulled back in a bun adorned with pretty yellow primroses. We don’t have her birthday accessories (sigh) so we made a choker for her with ribbon.

Josefina checking out her gifts, a new sewing kit and hierbas for healing.

We made a little sewing kit for Josefina with our Dollar Tree Finds. We painted a small wooden box from the craft area and used the mini thread spools and scissors from the travel sewing kit. She’s excited to work some new floral bordados. Josefina wants to be a curandera, or healer, just like her tía. For her birthday she received three vials with some natural herbs for healing.

Time for some sweet treats! Some pastelitos de tres leches and refreshing agua de limón. ¡Felíz cumpleaños to a sweet and caring niña!
